From Farm to Institution: How the Common Market Makes the Connection!

The Common Market is regional aggregator and distributor of wholesale local foods in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The event included explanations of how the The Common Market provides the infrastructure necessary to connect schools, hospitals, universities, retail stores, community organizations and workplaces to food grown in the region by sustainable farmers. The presentation and tour covered warehousing processes, product and operational standards, challenges of bringing local food to institutions and how The Common Market has adapted over time to overcome those barriers. Representatives from local producers described unique challenges faced in getting their products to the institutional market and how The Common Market has helped them.
